fork oils take on a large part of the damping in the front wheel fork. Depending on the system, the oil is pushed through simple bores or adjustable valves during compression and rebound. The viscosity of the oil is responsible for how much and how quickly the oil flows through the valves and thus determines the response of the fork as well as the damping behaviour in general.
