The rear exhaust heat shield in carbon for the BMW R 1250 GS from 2019 onwards replaces the original component using the original mounting points.The focus is on weight saving (typically savings of approx. 70% compared to the original component) and higher rigidity. For this thermally highly stressed carbon part, we use special high-temperature prepreg (see FAQ) to prevent discolouration and yellowing. The carbon part was manufactured completely from prepreg material in an autoclave according to the latest guidelines and in the next step, to protect against environmental influences, coated with a clear plastic finish. This plastic coating enormously surpasses the usual clear lacquer coating in terms of protective effect, scratch resistance, and durability. However, the coating not only excels technically, but also significantly enhances the three-dimensional effect of the carbon structure.
