Rivet master link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet master link. A rivet master link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type master link, proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet master links:
There are two different types of rivet master links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting of both types!
While hollow rivet pins are flared out with a punch after the outer plate is applied for security, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the master link have been properly and professionally riveted, you will no longer notice any difference compared to the surrounding chains.
