Rivet Link:Most motorcycles are now supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed with a rivet link ex-factory. A rivet link is always used on high-performance vehicles, and thus on heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the clip link mentioned above, a proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting for both types!
While hollow rivet pins are spread open with a punch after the outer plate is fitted for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the connecting link have been correctly and professionally riveted, you will no longer see any difference compared to the surrounding chain links.
