Rivet Link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) that are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and thus for highly stressed and fast-running chain. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type link, proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on Rivet Links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Both types require special tools for proper riveting!
While hollow rivet pins are spread open with a punch after fitting the outer plate for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After correct and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the master link, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain.
