Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) that are permanently and securely closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type master link, a proper, permanent, and inseparable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. For proper riveting, special tools are required for both types!
While the hollow rivet pins are splayed with a drift for securing after the outer plate has been fitted, the tool simply flattens the head for solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the master link's solid rivet pins, you will no longer see any difference to the surrounding chains.
