Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and therefore for heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type connecting link, proper permanent insoluble riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
On the market, there are two different versions of rivet links – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. For both types, special tools are required for proper riveting!
While the hollow rivet pins are flared with a mandrel after fitting the outer plate for security, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the connecting link, you will no longer recognise any difference from the surrounding chain links.
