Rivet link:Nowadays, most motorcycles are delivered with endless chains (non-sealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used on high-performance vehicles, and thus on heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, a proper, permanent, non-removable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
On the market, there are two different versions of rivet links – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. For both types, special tools are required for proper riveting!
While the hollow rivet pins are spread open with a punch for securing after the outer plate is fitted, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the correct and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the connecting link, you will no longer see any difference from the surrounding chain links.
