Rivet Link:Most motorcycles are now supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with rubber rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and thus for heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper permanent, inseparable riveting is the safer option.
Note on Rivet Links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. For both types, special tools are required for proper riveting!
While the hollow rivet pins are flared with a mandrel after the outer plate is fitted for securement, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the connecting link have been properly and professionally riveted, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain link plates.
