Rivet master link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) that are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet master link. A rivet master link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and thus for heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the clip-type master link mentioned above, proper permanent non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on Rivet Master Links:
There are two different types of rivet master links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting of both types!
While hollow rivet pins are flared with a mandrel after the outer plate is fitted for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the master link have been properly and professionally riveted, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain links.
