Rivet link:Nowadays, most motorcycles are supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type link, proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. For both types, special tools are required for proper riveting!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed open with a punch after fitting the outer plate for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the connecting link, you will no longer see any difference compared to the surrounding chain links.
