Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings), which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and thus heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, a proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Both types require special tools for proper riveting!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed open with a punch after fitting the outer plate for secure fastening, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the connecting link, you will no longer see any difference compared to the surrounding chain links.
