The close cooperation between Akrapovič’s racing department and R&D department has resulted in an exhaust system with specifications almost identical to the system the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team will compete with in the 2023 Motocross World Championship season. The custom-designed system fits into the limited space of the motorcycle and is as large as the available space allows. This permits increased sound attenuation to mitigate environmental impact while simultaneously improving exhaust flow, allowing exhaust gases to exit the combustion chamber with as few restrictions as possible.The system, made entirely from lightweight, high-grade titanium alloys, offers a weight saving of 20.4% (0.9 kg) compared to the stock exhaust system. Different thicknesses of the individual sections ensure perfect protection and reduce overall weight, with the added strength provided by the design ensuring greater resilience even under the most challenging conditions. The exhaust system offers improved throttle response across the entire speed range, with power, performance and torque increased by 1.8 kW (2.4 hp) at 10,600 rpm and 1.5 Nm at 10,500 rpm respectively on the in-house dyno in back-to-back tests compared to a stock exhaust system.
A new profiled surface that shapes the deep, full sound, and an integrated resonance chamber for optimal power, performance and appropriate Akrapovič exhaust sound are designed to ensure this system complies with FIM noise limits for the competition. A special technique was used to imprint the logo on the surface: there is no sticker or engraving, but a new way of applying the logo. The system was developed for closed-course racing use only and is simple to install via plug-and-play, with no re-mapping required.
