Rivet Link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed with a rivet link at the factory. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning highly stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the clip link mentioned above, proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on Rivet Links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting for both types!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed out with a punch after the outer plate is applied for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the link are properly and professionally riveted, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain links.
