Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and thus for highly stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type master link, proper permanent insoluble riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting with both types!
While hollow rivet pins are flared with a mandrel after the outer plate is fitted for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the master link, you will no longer see any difference from the surrounding chain links.
