Rivet link:Nowadays, most motorcycles are supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper, permanent, insoluble riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting of both types!
While hollow rivet pins are spread with a mandrel after fitting the outer plate for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the correct and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the connecting link, you will no longer see any difference from the surrounding chain links.
