Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) that are permanently and securely closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used on high-performance vehicles, and thus for heavily loaded and fast-running chains. In contrast to the clip-type master link mentioned above, proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different versions of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting for both types!
While hollow rivet pins are spread with a mandrel for securing after the outer plate has been fitted, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the master link have been correctly and professionally riveted, you will no longer see any difference compared to the surrounding chain links.
