Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily loaded and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper, permanent, insoluble riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different designs of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting with both types!
While hollow rivet pins are spread with a mandrel after the outer plate is fitted for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the master link, you will no longer notice any difference to the surrounding chain links.
