Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) that are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper permanent insoluble riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting for both types!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed out with a drift after the outer plate has been fitted for securing, the tool simply flattens the head for solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the master link have been properly and professionally riveted, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain links.
