Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed with a rivet link at the factory. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and thus heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting of both types!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed out with a punch after the outer plate is fitted for security, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the link, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain links.
