Rivet link:Nowadays, most motorcycles are supplied with endless chains (non-sealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, and thus for heavily loaded and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper permanent insoluble riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting of both types!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed out with a punch after fitting the outer plate for securement, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the connecting link, you will no longer see any difference compared to the surrounding chain links.
