Rivet master link:Nowadays, most motorcycles are delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet master link. A rivet master link is always used on high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type master link, a proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet master links:
There are two different versions of rivet master links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for the correct riveting of both types!
While the hollow rivet pins are spread open with a punch after fitting the outer plate for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the master link, you will no longer see any difference compared to the surrounding chain links.
