Rivet Link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings), which are permanently and securely closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used on high-performance vehicles, and thus on heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type master link, proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. For both types, special tools are required for proper riveting!
While hollow rivet pins are flared with a punch after fitting the outer plate for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After correctly and professionally riveting the solid rivet pins of the master link, you will no longer notice any difference compared to the surrounding chain links.
