Rivet Link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with O-rings) which are permanently closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used on high-performance vehicles, and thus on heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper permanent, unremovable riveting is the safer option.
Note on Rivet Links:
There are two different types of rivet links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting of both types!
While hollow rivet pins are flared with a punch after the outer plate is fitted for securing, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the master link, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain links.
