Rivet link:Most motorcycles are now supplied with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with rubber O-rings), which are permanently and securely closed at the factory with a rivet link. A rivet link is always used for high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chains. In contrast to the aforementioned clip link, proper, permanent, and inseparable riveting is the safer option.
Note on rivet links:
There are two different types of rivet links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. Special tools are required for proper riveting of both types!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed open with a punch after the outer plate is fitted for securement, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the proper and professional riveting of the solid rivet pins of the link, you will no longer see any difference from the surrounding chain links.
