Rivet Master Link:Most motorcycles are now delivered with endless chains (unsealed or sealed with rubber rings) which are permanently closed at the factory using a rivet master link. A rivet master link is always used on high-performance vehicles, meaning heavily stressed and fast-running chain. In contrast to the aforementioned clip-type master link, a proper, permanent, non-detachable riveting is the safer option.
Note on Rivet Master Links:
There are two different types of rivet master links available on the market – with hollow rivets or solid rivets. For both types, special tools are required for proper riveting!
While hollow rivet pins are splayed out with a punch after the outer plate is fitted for security, the tool simply flattens the head of solid rivet pins. After the solid rivet pins of the master link have been properly and professionally riveted, you will no longer notice any difference from the surrounding chain links.
